Pronunciation is everything. For more than 4 years now I have mis-pronounced Rick's last name as or-sill-o. It is, rather, or-seal-o. So if you listen real closely to this week's MySpace podcast, you can hear that I re-recorded my pronunciation and pasted it into the audio in two locations.
The social networking units have been particularly interesting to put together. Whereas we've had strong base units to work off of with other units (primarily from Helene Blower's program in North Carolina), these were largely from scratch. The sole regret I have is not better integrating Facebook - I'd hoped to include a Facebook account setup option in unit 10. Next time...
Unit 11 (posted this coming wednesday) gives a big shot out to Eric B, Rakim, and Jody Watley. Had no idea that Jody has continued to record and make music - her myspace page paints a fuller picture.
And, well, I can not think of any more random things to write about this week's unit and my laptop battery is about to die...Labels: eric b and rakim, facebook, jody watley, myspace, social networking
----- -------- TITLE: did you set up a Flickr account? AUTHOR: David W DATE: 3/13/2007 09:03:00 AM ----- BODY: If yeah, those auto-generated account names (in your Flickr URLs) can be a pain to remember. Should you want to make it easier, log into your account and, from the first page you see, look to the left to set a permanent account name. The Learning 2.0 Flickr page, for instance, was changed to www.flickr.com/photos/kcls27things. Much easier to remember than www.flickr.com/photos/70923#31123, don't you think? ----- COMMENT: AUTHOR: Rusty DATE: March 13, 2007 at 10:00 AM You might do a follow up *.5 instruction set on creating links within posts. It seems easy enough to do with the Link Tool once the concept is understood. "Highlight the text, click the tool, fill out the URL, set the font/color."
And I was running late so I took all Lake Hills photos from my car. The young boy at the end of the lesson? That's my son from this past November - he has moved on from chewing Eric Carle books to chewing Dr. Seuss and Chris Rashcka books. And, last thing on the Flickr lessons, tags will be covered in even more detail a few weeks from now.
All podcasts are being hosted on a free site called Twango (that's www.twango.com). I believe they are out of Bellevue or Redmond. I'm recording them with a very simple USB microphone onto my laptop and using free audio editing software, Audacity to smoothe out the rough spots. The goal of these is not to recreate what you are seeing in the text lesson - rather, we're trying to make the lesson themes more relveant by bringing you experiences from your real life colleagues.
I hope you are all having fun so far and not stressing about what does not come easily - talk to your branch advocates or send email to the Learning 2.0 team at 27things@kcls.org.
Oh, and on that last part - the Learning 2.0 Team. We are expanding somewhat - three folks at Bellevue (Matt Carlson, Zack Mooney, Meredith Selfon) are going to help with staff blog monitoring. This means that a comment from the 'Learning 2.0 Team' will be from myself, Laurel Steiner, or one of these nice volunteers. But don't worry fellow KCLS bloggers - I'll continue to be the only one who will know your true identity...Labels: advocates, audacity, background, flickr, participants, podcasts
